ORGANIC FARMING
In the village of Montefano (MACERATA), one of the degli Azzoni brothers
manages a small estate (about five hectares) on his own. All crops (basil,
wheat, maize and barley) are bio-certified.
TUSCANY
At the beginning of the 20th century the Count Aldobrandino degli Azzoni
Avogadro, left the Veneto region in search of a quieter place to live.
He loved the Tuscan countryside and settled down at La Rotta, a small
village along the barks of Arno river, between Florence and Pisa.
They found that the soil in the plain was particularly fertile and ideal
for the cultivation of maize and wheat; the hills were south facing
and better suited for wine-growing.
Today Count Aldobrando is bringing grand-father project to fruition
with passion and enthusiasm. The wine cellars have been modernised and
new machines have been purchased; an old cellar has been reconverted
and a of thermal control system has been installed to enhance product
quality.
New international varieties of grapes have been chosen for the vineyard
as they have been found to marry well with local varieties.
